26th ICC Annual Conference, 03-05 May 2019 - Berlin, Germany

Teaching and Learning Languages in the Multilingual World: Policy and Practice

We have seen a huge increase in the number and nature of technological ‘solutions’ to learning languages. With the movement of peoples across the world, learners are more diverse than ever before. ‘Clashes of culture’ are ever more present. The challenges facing language teachers are becoming more numerous and more varied. The range of languages not only that students want to learn but also that learners bring into the classroom is increasing and becoming more fluid.

How well prepared are we? What is being taken into account in teacher training? What kinds of pre-service and in-service support do language teachers need?

This conference examines the challenges faced by teachers across a range of classroom environments. It offers reflections on planning, policy making and practical tips for those of us on the front line.

It also examines how the training of teachers and the training of trainers can be developed if we are to adapt to the ever-changing needs of the language learning environment.
