Gamifying Greek: How Digital Tools Can Make Learning Greek Fun and Effective
Speaker: Maria Gkeme (Freelance Educator, Greece)
Abstract
The integration of gamification into language learning has revolutionized how students engage with new languages, making the process more interactive, motivating, and effective. In this session, we explore how digital tools, apps, and game-based methodologies can enhance the teaching and learning of Greek as a second or foreign language.
Greek can be perceived as challenging for learners. However, by incorporating game mechanics such as points, badges, leaderboards, and interactive challenges, educators can create immersive learning experiences that boost engagement, retention, and motivation. This session will present real-world examples of successful gamification strategies, including the use of Kahoot, Quizlet, escape-room activities, and storytelling-based games tailored to Greek language acquisition.
This session is suitable for language teachers, curriculum designers, and ed-tech enthusiasts looking to incorporate innovative digital approaches into their teaching.
