AI in Language Teaching and Learning

Speaker: Tanja Baksa (Srednja škola Prelog, University North, Croatia)

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming language education by providing innovative tools that enhance teaching and learning experiences. AI-powered platforms can help how language learners acquire new skills, enabling personalized, adaptive, and interactive learning environments. These tools not only support learners in mastering vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation but also provide instant feedback, improving the speed and quality of learning.

Diffit is an AI tool that can help educators adapt texts, videos, etc. to the learner’s level, and it also offers tailored exercises to reinforce areas of weakness. Lingoteach.ai focuses on creating customized lesson plans and assessments based on real-time data, allowing teachers to adjust their approach and target specific student needs effectively. MagicSchool provides an immersive language-learning experience through interactive AI-driven lessons that combine speech recognition with contextual learning, helping students develop conversational skills in a natural way with chatbots. Finally, ChatGPT, a conversational AI tool, offers instant dialogue practice by simulating real-life conversations in a target language, providing learners with both language practice and cultural insights, and helping teachers make different exercises, vocabulary lists, etc. and lesson plans.

AI in language education not only facilitates self-paced learning but also bridges the gap between traditional instruction and modern digital tools. As these technologies continue to evolve, they promise to further reshape the landscape of language education, making learning more accessible, engaging, and efficient.
