Adapting New Technologies to Empower English Language Teaching, Learning and Assessment

Joe Dale (UK)

Abstract

Joe Dale’s presentation “Adapting New Technologies to Empower English Language Teaching, Learning and Assessment” will provide an exciting exploration into how digital tools and AI can enhance language acquisition. He will introduce a curated selection of cutting-edge interactive platforms like Mizou, AudioPen, Diffit, Padlet, Blockade Labs and Quizizz AI that will facilitate listening, reading, speaking, and writing skill development through innovative speech-to-text features, text customisation, authentic conversation practice, graded texts, visual imagery, and digital storytelling.

Joe will also demonstrate AI’s immense utility in efficiently creating and grading language quizzes, and enable hands-free material development for time-poor educators. He will spotlight profound accessibility gains from voice control, multilingual support, text simplification, and read-aloud capacities that promote inclusion.

Additional topics will include leveraging ChatGPT for differentiated language tasks, collaborative resource creation and student-centred speaking practice guidelines. Joe will conclude by recapping key takeaways and insightful practical applications to maximise technology’s wondrous potential based on his years of internationally-recognised expertise in this fascinating domain.

Overall, this cutting-edge presentation will offer a plethora of brilliantly practical tips, imaginative task recommendations, and invaluable curated resources for empowering language instructors to harness technology and demystify the use of AI in producing creative, quality-assured teaching materials.
