ECSPM Symposium Announcement
15-16 May 2025, Madrid
ACTIONS FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE IN MULTILINGUAL SOCIETIES
ECSPM is organising its 2025 annual symposium on “ACTIONS FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE IN MULTILINGUAL SOCIETIES” to celebrate 10 years of development, expansion and enlargement as an organisation independent from the DG Education and Culture of the European Commission, which initially launched it.
The symposium will be hosted by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) on May 15th and 16th. It is co-organised by the Multilingualism, Discourse, and Communication Research Centre (MIRCo), building on the insights derived from its Equiling research project and from previous ECSPM symposia. The intention is that the work presented at the symposium will extend beyond critical analysis of how the management of multilingualism in lower and higher education exacerbates social inequality. The aim is to explore collaborative perspectives, methods, and strategies for transforming social and linguistic reality in schools and universities.
Besides the work presented by plenary lecturers, to be discussed with designated invited speakers and audience, on both symposium days, during the morning sessions, this symposium will be an occasion for engaged dialogue about issues considered in the projects that ECSPM is involved in, and specifically:
- Working on “Linguistic justice in research and publishing” as a collaborator of the CoARA Multilingualism WG
- Drafting a proposal for an ERASMUS+ European Teacher Academy
- Developing a Knowledge Hub on the ECSPM website, dedicated to Translation, Interpretation and Cross-linguistic Communication.
The symposium will take place at La Cristalera UAM centre which is a beautiful, self-contained residence in the mountains in Miraflores de la Sierra, close to Madrid, that will give participants a unique opportunity to be altogether for a full two days and three evenings so they can also mingle, discuss issues of mutual concern and develop collaborations.
